PILOT SEASON: How to Prepare for 2022

What is Pilot Season?

Pilot season is the time of year when Studios create samples of new shows!

If you don't get enough auditions during Pilot Season as an actor, especially if you're still new, it's normal! Casting directors will be trying their best to find a role that'll be best for you and the show! Pilot season ranges from the months of February to late April. But don't worry, there's another season called the "Episodic Season."

Rejection, it's normal, don't take it personally!

Keep in mind about rejection, don't take it too personally, rejection is normal in the Entertainment Industry. The rejection could be because of the production budget or other factors.

Did you know some actors almost quit due to rejection, but then they get booked at the last minute, for now, a well-known role?

What is Episodic Season?

The episodic season ranges from August through November, during this time pilot season shows/movies that went through testing including ongoing shows will begin to cast actors. This consists of co-star and guest-star opportunities, this will give you the chance to get a recurring role.

How Should I Prepare?

In my opinion, I would prepare by having my self-tape setup ready at all times, it can be already set up, in it's positions already, or simply by having part of your setup with you already! When you recieve a script, make sure you're well rested so you can memorize the scene. Sometimes you might have to do it overnight, but keep in mind that good sleep can give you better results than if you didn't sleep.

I would prepare by always checking my emails occasionally, because some emails may be very time sensitive! Especially audition emails, now with the audition emails make sure to read every little bit of word and understand it to your best ability!! Make sure you have your profiles all up to date whether it may be on Actors Access, LA Casting also known as Casting Networks, IMDB Pro, or your own website! It will help a-lot!!

Headshots

Make sure your headshots are always up to date, everyone looks different after every souple of months! Now if you're a beginner and you want headshots make sure to read the directions, yes, it sure is nice to get professional headshots as a beginner however each agency or manager will ask for a different styled photo and may cost you even more than what you paid for without them originally!

Once you have an agent or manager, they'll recommend you take photos with whoever it might be, which is great, BUT! Make sure the photographer is well known by actors around your region! If they aren't that well known or known by an entertainment industry photographer, STOP, and check!

If you're the beginner, I recommend you to analyze the photographers you want to take photos with and try to recreate those photos but for you! Remember you're trying to impress and make a connection with the casting director through your photo! Not all casting directors will want a professional photo done, majority of agencies/managers will accept actors, models, and talent through photos they take in a normal day. For example, leaning against a waterfall, on vacation in Maui, and etc!
